Resident Evil Veronica Can Only Be Played in Third-Person
If you saw the teaser for Resident Evil Veronica earlier this month, you might be wondering whether the game is following Resident Evil Requiem’s footsteps in that it can be played in first or third-person.
We’re here to squash those hopes, as Capcom has confirmed the game is set entirely in third-person, which isn’t surprising given the original game is in third-person too.
Resident Evil Veronica Handled by Dev Tean Who Crafted RE2 and RE4 Remakes
In a Q&A conducted by Capcom after the reveal (via IGN), the remake’s producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said, “this game will be a third-person game,” squashing any hope for those thinking it might offer a first-person viewpoint.
Hirabayashi also confirmed that RE Veronica is being developed by the same dev team that produced the RE2 and RE4 remakes, stating, “However, the team behind this remake is the same team that handled the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes…So if you looked at the past remakes that this team has created, you can probably sense a certain mindset that we have when we make a game, and that mindset includes preserving those iconic and key aspects of the title. So again, if you look at our work, you can probably get kind of a good sense of what kind of approach we’re taking here, and maybe you can imagine what that might look like for this remake.”
As someone who prefers playing Resident Evil in third-person, I understand why Capcom wouldn’t want to add a first-person view to every Resident Evil game. Sure, it worked in Resident Evil 7 and RE8, but that doesn’t mean the developers have to implement it in every Resident Evil game — especially one that’s a remake.
After Veronica, the next remake won’t be Resident Evil 5 it seems, as our digging from eight months ago confirms a Resident Evil 0 remake is in development, and we have the first details about it.
