Report: Arkane’s Blade Goes Over Budget, Delayed Internally
While PlayStation has Marvel’s Spider-Man and, soon, Marvel’s Wolverine to satisfy the appetite of superhero video game fans, Microsoft was supposed to have Blade, Marvel’s vampire-hunting hero.
Announced three years ago as Arkane’s next major project, we haven’t heard a peep from it since.
The good news is, the game isn’t canceled, per a new report. The bad news? Don’t expect to play it anytime soon, or even if it’ll see the light of day this generation.
Blade Game in Development Trouble
In The Verge’s reporting of today’s massive Xbox reset (ie: layoffs), it mentions that the project has been delayed and is running over budget. Given there’s no known development budget publicly mentioned, we’ll just have to take The Verge’s word for it.
That said, the game has been in development since at least 2022, and given we haven’t even seen any gameplay or screenshots of it, it’s highly likely the project isn’t hitting its milestones.
While Microsoft is working on selling off Arkane Studios, the fact that it’s in France complicates matters due to the country’s more stringent labor laws than in the US.
Finding a buyer will also take a considerable of time, so it’s not clear what happens to Blade or even if Arkane can take it with it if the studio shifts owners.
For now, the dream of playing as the Daywalker remains just that — a dream. Hopefully, Arkane finds a buyer soon, and we’ll see this game rise from its coffin.
