Resident Evil Requiem Sets New Franchise Sales Record; RE2 Remake Now the Best-Selling Resident Evil Game of All-Time
Capcom’s latest Resident Evil game is just doing gangbusters at retail, as it has now established a new franchise sales record.
Resident Evil Requiem (some call Resident Evil 9), has now hit eight million units sold in just four months of availability.
This was announced by Capcom today, and marks a major franchise milestone.
Resident Evil Requiem Now the Fastest-Selling Multi-million-Selling Game in the Franchise
As part of today’s announcement by Capcom of its financial report, the company has mentioned that Resident Evil Requiem has now sold over eight million units across all platforms, making it the fastest game in the franchise to hit this number.
The previous record holder was Resident Evil 4 remake, which took 14 months to hit eight million.
Not only that, but Capcom also released sales data of other games in the franchise too. As of June 30, the Resident Evil 2 remake has sold through 19.75 million units, making it the best-selling Resident Evil game of all-time. RE2 has now surpassed Monster Hunter Rise and is now also the second best-selling game in Capcom’s history.
Resident Evil 2 remake has beaten Resident Evil 5 as the former top-seller and is also expected to reach 20 million units sold before RE5 (thanks Alex Aniel).
Needless to say, if you haven’t picked Resident Evil 2 up, go do it, as it’s one heck of a remake, and easily my favorite one of the bunch (read my review to know why).
As for Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom added the Leon Must Die Forever mode three months ago, and there’s story DLC in development, which we’re hoping we’ll know more about this year.
