Naughty Dog Boss Confirms Multiple The Last of Us Projects in the Works; Intergalactic Full Reveal in 2027
Just a few weeks ago, Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann confirmed that the studio wasn’t done with The Last of Us franchise.
In a recent post to mark The Last of Us Day (September 26 — which was when the Cordyceps virus outbreak started), Neil Druckmann confirmed a few things — some good, some bad.
First off, for those looking forward to hearing more about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, you’ll have to wait even more, as that game won’t resurface until 2027.
The good news? More The Last of Us titles are on the way.
The Last of Us Multiple Projects Confirmed
In a blog post by studio head Neil Druckmann, he confirmed that there are multiple projects in The Last of Us universe, stating, “We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages – so we can’t say much about them at this point. I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II.”
Druckmann added, “The world of The Last of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn’t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling.”
As for Intergalactic, Druckmann said the project is “Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet.”
Don’t expect anything regarding the game to be unveiled this year, though that should change in 2027, as that’s when they will “fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.”
That’s certainly good news for the franchise, though having said that, it’s a bit worrying that Naughty Dog hasn’t released anything in six years, and with Intergalactic getting its full reveal next year, which we’re hoping is also the year it’ll be released, that means we can probably expect The Last of Us Part 3 to be released in 2030 or so.
Unfortunately, even fan projects for the franchise aren’t doing so well, given that Sony itself isn’t keen to see it continue.
