It seems that Mass Effect fans are not ready to give up on the franchise, even after Electronic Arts shut down BioWare and canceled development of the next Mass Effect game.

The closure of the famous RPG studio, which came alongside around 400 job cuts across EA, has led fans to launch a campaign called #SaveMassEffect, hoping to convince EA to bring the series back.

The campaign has already gained huge support, with an online petition passing 270,000 signatures in less than a week. But fans are now taking things a step further by organizing a massive play event on November 7, hoping to show EA just how many people still care about the franchise.

The We Are Mass Effect community is organizing a large play event for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition on November 7, also known as N7 Day, to show EA that there are still plenty of players interested in the series.

Players are being asked to join between 2 PM and 5 PM Eastern Time, although those playing on consoles or through the EA app can also take part by sharing screenshots and clips using the #SaveMassEffect hashtag.

But this is not the only effort fans are making to save the series. The campaign, supported by the We Are Mass Effect community group and content creator Kala Elizabeth, is also asking EA to either provide enough funding for another Mass Effect game or allow a different studio to develop the franchise.

On October 26, fans even managed to display a digital billboard in New York City’s Times Square, featuring the #SaveMassEffect hashtag and the phrase “Keelah Si’yah,” a reference to the Quarian ship from Mass Effect: Andromeda.

What’s more interesting is that the community also launched a GoFundMe campaign to pay for mobile billboards near EA’s headquarters, its Edmonton location, and The Game Awards in December. The fundraiser raised more than $5,000 in less than 20 minutes, showing how much fans want to save the series. Any extra money will go to game developers who have lost their jobs.

However, despite all this, bringing Mass Effect back may not be so easy. Even if all 270,000 people who signed the petition bought a new game at full price, the money would still fall short of the budget needed for a modern AAA title. EA would have to spend a huge amount on development or consider making a smaller game with a lower budget.

For now, EA has not announced any plans to bring back the canceled project or hand the franchise to another studio. As more information becomes available, we’ll make sure to let you guys know here at MP1st.
