Mass Effect Fans Push for Petition to Save the Franchise, With Over 120K Signatures Already
Following the announcement of BioWare that its own, Electronic Arts (EA), was shutting the studio down for good, info regarding the cancelled Mass Effect game has surfaced.
Not only did t we get a trailer, but even story and gameplay info have come out of the woodwork.
Now, Mass Effect fans all over the world have banded together to try and save the franchise.
Mass Effect Petition Pushed by Fans, But Will It Even Work?
The petition is live at Change.org with the straightforward title #SaveMassEffect.
According to the petition, “Mass Effect holds a special place in the hearts of millions of players worldwide. Its rich and immersive sci-fi universe, with Commander Shepard leading the iconic crew aboard the Normandy, has captivated gamers for years. However, recent revelations have cast a shadow over its future. The decline in dedicated resources and ambiguous development plans from Electronic Arts (EA) threaten to leave this beloved series at a standstill, jeopardizing its incredible legacy.”
With that in mind, this petition was started to show EA that there are a lot of people around the world that love the franchise, and how they should continue developing the RPG. Either that, or perhaps license the IP off to another company, “We are urgently petitioning EA to take decisive action by committing to the continued development of Mass Effect. This commitment requires proper funding, adequate staffing, and time allocation to maintain and advance the high standards the franchise is known for. Alternatively, EA could consider licensing the Mass Effect intellectual property (IP) to another studio that shares the passion and vision to keep it alive and allow it to flourish anew,” it claims.
As of press time, the petition has over 124,000 signatures and is growing rapidly. However, the big question here is: will this even matter? Given what I’ve seen of petitions, they usually don’t. At the very least, EA will see how many people signed this, enough to care, which might have them second-guess whether to let the franchise live on or not. Either that, or maybe they’ll sell it off to another company? Given the amount of dormant IP EA has in its stable, I highly doubt that too, but we’ve seen stranger things happen.
Give the petition a sign if you’ve got a minute or two to spare. It doesn’t cost you anything, and perhaps we’ll be able to save one of the best sci-fi RPG brands of all time together; just like Shepard did with against the Reapers.
