Helldivers 2 Players on Steam Will Be Required to Connect to a PlayStation Network Account Very Soon

For the new players joining the Helldivers 2 party on PC (via Steam(, you’ll have to connect your Steam account to a PlayStation Network account starting May 6.

This was announced by Arrowhead Game Studios today where the studio explained that due to “technical issues” at the launch of the game, they made the linking requirements for Steam entirely optional.

Current Steam players who are already playing Helldivers 2, you will see a mandatory login from May 30 and will also be required to have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4. According to the studio, this is being done as a requirement as account linking is a “critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games.”

Arrowhead adds that this is their “main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour.” Furthermore, it also allows those players that have been banned the right to an appeal.

For those who want to create a free PlayStation Network account, you can do so here.

Not sure how the PC player base will receive this news, but at the very least, it’s a minor inconvenience, no? That said, I can still see some people getting bummed at this requirement. Now, imagine if the rumor that Helldivers 2 will land on Xbox and this is also a requirement? Now that would be hilarious.

In other Helldivers 2 news, a new Warbond called the Polar Patriots is dropping next week, and here’s what it contains.
