Earlier today, Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony announced that very soon, all Helldivers 2 players on PC will need to create a PlayStation Network (PSN) account that they will need to link to their Steam ID in order to continue playing the game.
Naturally, this hasn’t sat well with the current playerbase, as the Helldivers 2’s Steam page has been review bombed, and instead of sitting at a positive rating, it is currently now at “Mixed,” with multiple gamers citing the account linking requirement as the cause of the downvote.
Over on Twitter, Arrowhead Game Studios boss Johan Pilestedt is aware of the backlash, and has mentioned that they are “discussing” with Sony on a possible solution to this.
We are discussing that question with our partners at PlayStations and trying to find a solution.

That Twitter/X user (Randouglas) does make a fair point: what will you do if you can’t make a PSN account? Just refund the game? What about the hours upon hours of lost progress then? Hopefully, Sony finds a middle ground to this (perhaps linking a player’s Steam to PSN seamlessly without giving out more info and whatnot?), or it will be a very long month for Helldivers 2 players.
With how this situation is heating up, we’re keeping a close eye on it. Interesting to see how the upcoming Polar Patriots Warbond will be received this coming week given all this drama.
Interestingly enough, it was just last month when Pilestedt mentioned how Sony doesn’t interfere with Helldivers 2’s development. It seems that doesn’t apply to accounts and only to game content.
