Hogwarts Legacy – How to Get the Flying Mount

hogwarts legacy flying mount

Avalanche Software’s Hogwarts Legacy is a massive game, so understandably, you’re probably trying to do everything you can before you beat the game. Which may bring up the question, how do you get a flying mount to help you traverse the massive open world in Hogwarts Legacy?

How to Get the Flying Mount (Hippogriff) in Hogwarts Legacy

Getting the flying mount in Hogwarts Legacy is unmissable as it’s part of the natural story progression of the game. Unfortunately, it’s towards mid-game, meaning you’ll need to use the broomstick as your primary form of transportation.

For those curious (and spoiler warning,) at one point during the campaign, Natsai Onai (Natty) will contact you concerning her investigation into Harlow. Without getting into too much details, the quest line is called “The High Keep” and completing it will reward you the Hippogriff.

To call the flying mount, all you have to do (on PlayStation) is push and hold L1. This will bring up the item menu, with the mount mapped to the triangle button. Holding L1 and then pressing the triangle will summon the mount.

Control-wise, the flying mount does operate differently from the broomstick. There’s no dedicated boost button, and the only way to make the flying mount move faster is to use momentum. So you’ll want to ascend to a good height to descend as the Hippogriff moves faster.

You also have to keep in mind that the Hippogriff is significantly bigger than the broomstick. That means you should pay attention to your surroundings as it’s easy to get stuck in the environment. You also need more clearance when landing and dismounting from the flying mount.

The broomstick can be upgraded too. Attributes like speed and handling can be improved, unlike the Hippogriff. Not to mention it’s smaller, so navigating through dense areas and landing in them is easier.

Regardless of which one you end up using more, know that you gain access to both of them through story progression. So if you haven’t gotten either of them yet, just keep playing.
