While Treyarch rolled out a Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War patch earlier today on the PS4, it seems the studio has something else planned for this weekend, as a surprise 24-hour Black Ops Cold War 2XP event is starting today at 10 a.m. PT/1 p/m/ ET/2 a.m. HKT/6 pm. GMT!

No details were shared if this includes Zombies mode too, or whether we’ll get double XP for both regular progression and weapons. I’m hoping this includes weapon XP as well, so I can unlock the attachments I need ASAP.
In related news, Multiplayer Game Designer Tony Flame has confirmed that we’ll be seeing weapon, scorestreak and more balance changes in Season 1 or even before that!
There WILL be Weapon, Scorestreak, and more balance changes coming in with Season 1, if not sooner. Already seeing some interesting trends in the analytics, but it's too soon for conclusions. If you're giving feedback, know that we see it and are taking it into consideration.

Flame also suggested that multiplayer fans should try out Zombies mode in Black Ops Cold War given they changed their design mantra for it.
We took our MP System and Balance philosophies and blended them into Zombies, including Rank and Weapon progression for slaying the undead. If your an MP regular, give Zombies a try to get your first few Attachments on that new gun. It has some MP grind vibes you might like.

Those playing Zombies, does it feel closer to multiplayer compared to past iterations? Don’t forget to have an alarm for double XP later, as it’ll be just for 24 hours, so make it count!
