Apex Legends Update 2.42 Brings FF7 Rebirth and

The Apex Legends Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover event officially starts on January 9. The event will feature a new Limited Time Mode with various Final Fantasy items included, as well as a handful of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth-themed cosmetics for players to collect.

You can view the trailer for the event here:

Here are the event’s details directly from this morning’s press release:

For three weeks of infinite possibilities, the FINAL FANTASY VII Takeover will replace the unranked battle royale mode in Apex Legends. In this exciting new mode, players can wield the Buster Sword R2R5 to dash, block bullets, unleash a powerful Limit Break, and more. New effects join the game in the form of Materia Hop-Ups, which grant benefits like area-of-effect (AOE) lightning and HP Absorption, plus a SOLDIER Nessie to fight by players’ sides.

But players won’t just be embracing gameplay inspired by FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, they’ll be looking the part too! New skins come to the Outlands, including a moogle inspired skin for Wattson, along with iconic skins for Wraith, Crypto, and more. These skins can be bought with Apex Coins, and are part of 36 limited-time FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH-themed cosmetics. Players can collect them by purchasing Event packs to obtain items from the knockout pool, including the Mythic Buster Sword R5, the first Mythic cosmetic that can be equipped by any Legend!

As stated above, the event will run for three weeks, presumably ending on January 30. This should give players plenty of time to try the new mode out and pick up any cosmetics they’re interested in. There’s a good variety available from what we can see in the trailer, so we’re looking forward to checking the event out.

Chances are, there’s a game update rolled out with this event, and once it’s live, we’ll let our readers know.
