Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Leaked Release Date Five Years Ago, But No One Noticed
Larian Studios, the team behind Baldur’s Gate 3, has surprised fans with a strange story about the release of their successful RPG.
Almost two years after the game was officially released in August 2023, one of the developers shared that the release date had actually been right in front of everyone the whole time—in a bar. What’s even more surprising is that, even though it was written in a public spot, nobody noticed it.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Release Date Hidden on Whisky Bottle for Years Before Being Discovered

Michael Douse, the publishing director at Larian, recently shared on social media that he had written the Baldur’s Gate 3 release date on a bottle of whisky and left it in a bar five years ago, before the pandemic.
“5 years and a pandy ago I wrote the BG3 release date on this bottle of whisky and let it hang at the bar, and nobody found it,” he said on X (formerly Twitter), posting a photo of the bottle in question: a Japanese Suntory whisky bottle with the release date written in black marker on the back.
What might have been a problem turned out to be a funny story. “I was drunk but it never leaked so in retrospect it’s funny and not a legal issue,” Douse explained, adding jokingly, “Maybe I did it again? Who knows.”
In other news, Michael Douse claims ‘marketing is dead,’ stating players no longer want to be misled and prefer direct communication from developers.
