Battlefield 6 Progression and Weapon Mastery to Be Improved According to DICE
Even with countless updates and seasonal content drops, one thing that hasn’t changed much and has been a constant sore point for a lot of Battlefield 6 players is weapon progression.
For some reason, DICE made it very grind-y to unlock attachments for guns. While the devs changed this within the game’s first month of launch, it wasn’t good enough.
Players had to slog through hours upon hours of weapon grinding just to get the good attachments that were locked high up a weapon’s level.
Thankfully, that seems to be changing soon.
Battlefield 6 Weapon Progression to (Finally) Be Improved
In a new Community Update by DICE, the studio talked about Season 2 and some of the improvements on the way. Chief among the topics discussed was progression — something the community has been asking for since launch.
Here’s what DICE had to say about it:
Progression
Progression has been a consistent topic of discussion. We’ve continued monitoring data and reviewing your experiences, and it’s clear that certain parts of progression, particularly within Weapon Mastery, are taking too long to feel rewarding.
With the next phase of this season, we’re introducing targeted adjustments aimed at smoothing the overall progression pacing and reducing unnecessary grind.
Weapon Mastery progression will feel faster and more consistent. We’ve tuned the Mastery XP curve to smooth out attachment unlock pacing, increased the rate at which sidearms rank up so they align more closely with primary weapons, and moved camo unlocks earlier so cosmetic rewards arrive sooner in your progression journey.
These adjustments build on the progression updates introduced at the start of the season. We will continue to evaluate how these changes land across different modes and playstyles, with further refinements later in the season.
Other topics the studio touched on was the ping system. and how in a following update, DICE will address an issue where enemies spotted using the Recon Drone would not consistently remain marked for squad members.
Later in Season 2, DICE is also planning refinements to the ping system focused on “improving clarity, reducing visual noise, and strengthening squad readability.” With these changes, DICE aims to make communiation faster and easier to interpret. Expect more updates to the ping system in the future, with details to be shared in as we get closer to release for these updates.
In related news, DICE says they “completely emphatize” with the player base who want more maps and content, though it doesn’t seem like it’ll be changing anytime soon based on the dev’s comment.
