Battlefield 6 Season 5 Cosmetics With Five Pistols an “Intentional Creative Concept,” as Devs Clear Air on Sloppy Skins

With the launch of Battlefield 6’s Season 5, players noticed a few things about the new cosmetics included in the Season 5 Battle Pass that basically made it appear like it was AI slop.

While the devs could have taken the hit and moved on, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Today, DICE issued a statement on the operator skins that even other games have taken shots at. However, it seems

Battlefield 6 Cosmetics Quality Acknowledged by DICE, but 5 Pistols on One Was Intentional (?)

Over on the official Battlefield Discord server, the developers issued a lengthy message about the sub-standard cosmetics.

First, the studio addressed the McNeil “SECUTY” typo that was on a character’s sleeve.

“First, let’s dive into the “Secuty” typo patches on the McNeil character. A correction update has already been planned for the Season 5 Phase 2 release. However, we recognize that letting a known visual error go live without quick acknowledgement creates confusion and erodes trust. We are reviewing how we communicate known visual bugs so you aren’t left wondering whether something was intentional or overlooked,” the studio mentioned.

DICE then admitted that they dropped the ball on this one, adding, “To be completely frank: Items that miss the mark like this do not reflect the quality standards you expect from us, or that we set for ourselves. We take pride in the craft of our world and our gear, and seeing visual oddities slip through is frustrating for everyone. ”

The studio is currently examining their internal processes and workflows to pinpoint how these issues occurred, and will implement tighter quality control moving forward.

Now, here’s the funny part: that operator skin with five pistols? Yeah, the one shown above? Apparently, that was an intentional design.

Called the Midnight Marage skin, DICE mentioned, “This is an intentional creative concept—a nod to over-the-top action movie tropes where an operative inexplicably has another backup weapon strapped to every spare inch of gear. That said, we understand how this could look unintentional when released alongside other cosmetic anomalies.”

Even other games such as mil-sim Arma was making fun of the skin, as the studio tweeted the following:

Apparently, that was intentional on DICE’s end? Maybe if they were going for something like that, they could have said something or made it more obvious?

At the end of the day, the studio didn’t deny that these cosmetics were made by AI. While I personally don’t have any major issues with that, the least they can do is check on the items that will be part of their paid Battle Pass.

The missteps for Season 5 don’t end there, as the developers also silently put an XP cap, which they had to roll back and say was “unintended” but only after the community found out about it.
