Battlefield: Bad Company Lead Designer Would “Love” to Do BC3, Says EA Knows Where to Find Him

Battlefield: Bad Company

If you asked Battlefield fans what their favorite game in the franchise is, chances are you’ll be met with three answers: Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It’s surprising to see a franchise spin-off revered in the way the Bad Company brand is, but it’s understandable why. Not only is it a solid multiplayer shooter — something the Battlefield franchise is known for, but even its single-player component is a memorable one as well.

After Bad Company 2, EA has left the brand dormant, and it doesn’t seem like there’s any indication it’s coming back. But if ever EA does decide to bring the band back, the game’s Lead Designer and former DICE developer David Goldfarb is willing to take another crack at another entry.

Speaking in an interview with PCGamesN, Goldfarb mentions how he “would love to do” another Bad Company game. Goldfarb mentions, “I am right here,” and adds, “They [EA] know where I am if they want to do one.” Even if that’s the case, Goldfarb won’t be pestering EA to make Bad Company 3, as he’s busy with his own studio, The Outsiders, which released rock & roll shooter, Metal Hellsinger back in 2022 (check out our review of it)

Former Bad Company 2 Lead Designer Explains Why the Franchise Clicked So Much With Gamers

Goldfarb didn’t end there, as he also explained why he thinks the Bad Company franchise clicked so much with gamers. According to Goldfarb, “I think the Bad Company franchise was special because it didn’t take itself seriously in the way many other games did. It prioritized fun and was totally cool with being what it was. My personal angle was to always make what I liked, so Bad Company 2 was very much Raiders of the Lost Ark as a buddy picture, and the multiplayer leaned into Rush hard because that was what I liked the most.”

Goldfarb even shared that he had started writing Bad Company 3 before, and knew where it would take place. However, given the condition of mainstream games development, he’s doubtful it would get approved today, stating, “There aren’t games like [Bad Company] at that production quality anymore. Most big productions will not take those bets because they believe they can look backwards to predict successes and looking backwards makes Bad Company and its humor and approach look like an anomaly.

“As with all these fucking places, that’s why we don’t see those kinds of games anymore, because economics and risk aversion and all the other shit turn people away from it. In many ways, Bad Company 2 was a perfect storm, though. I don’t know if we could do it again like that.”

While I agree with Goldfarb and think Bad Company 3 isn’t happening anytime soon, stranger things have happened, right? Who knows? Perhaps one executive at EA sees his statements, and gives him a ring just to see what he has planned. Well, that’s me hoping, at least.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was released 14 years ago on consoles and PC, and is one of the best entries in the franchise. Let’s hope EA decides to remake/remaster those games (and maybe Battlefield 3 and BF4) at some point down the road.

Looking ahead, EA is poised to unveil the next Battlefield game soon, as the publisher announced that a large-scale playtest is scheduled for early 2025.
