While Neversoft was primarily known as the devs behind the Tony Hawk games, did you know the studio was also working on a standalone Call of Duty project? Titled “Call of Duty: Future Warfare, it was supposed to be released in 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 before it got scrapped by Activision and has since never seen the light of day…at least until now.

Codenamed as “NX1” the game’s beta build has leaked online, which features not only the campaign but even multiplayer! What’s even better is, the game is playable, though you need an Xbox 360 emulator to play it or a devkit. You can download the files needed to play it here (Disclaimer: MP1st is not liable for any program you download or install on your device).

Call of Duty: Future Warfare was said to be built using the Modern Warfare 2 code base, and features a few chapters of the campaign and working multiplayer (per our conversation with DANNYonPC who’s currently playing it right now). There’s even a YouTube clip of one of the missions titled “Hit Hard At Home.”

If you want to test it out for yourself, here’s a tutorial to do so:

If you’re noticing similarities to Call of Duty: Ghosts, it’s because Neversoft was tinkering around with the game engine, and some of the stuff they did ended up allegedly as a prototype for Ghosts.

While Neversoft never released their own standalone Call of Duty game, the studio did support duties for Call of Duty titles such as Modern Warfare 3, Ghosts, and even Advanced Warfare until the the company’s closure in 2014. Would this Call of Duty game gone over well with the fanbase if it was released back then? I guess we’ll never know, but at the very least, we can now watch the cancelled game in action (or even play it if you can).

For the latest Call of Duty, Black Ops 6 which is being developed by Treyarch, will be released this October 25 on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Its open beta is set to launch this weekend, and if you’re planning on playing it, here are the best console settings to use.
