Cancelled Portal Prequel “F-Stop” Asset Showcase Released

Following a reported game code leak, a third-party gameplay demonstration of the cancelled Portal prequel “F-Stop” has been released to the public. The video, released with Valve‘s permission, showcases a reworking of Portal’s gravity manipulation mechanics, introducing a camera device used to duplicate in-game objects.

The demo was created using a recreation of the project’s assets, and you can watch it below:

F-Stop was designed as a prequel to the original Portal, replacing or altogether omitting a number of Portal’s plot devices and characters: the series’ overarching antagonist Cave Johnson was to feature in the game in a similar role to GlaDOS, and the first game’s iconic portal gun was to be replaced with the camera object seen in the above gameplay footage.

F-Stop was eventually rebooted as a Portal sequel sometime in 2008, transforming into Portal 2. While the original prequel idea never came to fruition, the unique, refreshing mechanics of the project will leave many fans of the franchise wishing for a proper release of F-Stop.
