Capcom Reveals It Is Using Generative AI in Games, But Only for “Routine Tasks”
Artificial intelligence in game development is seen as controversial by many players, mainly because people worry it could reduce the human touch behind making games. At the same time, developers argue the technology could give teams more time to focus on creative work while being used for repetitive and time-consuming tasks to speed up development.
As more companies begin embracing AI tools in game development, the latest studio to officially confirm its use is Capcom.
Before people grab the pitchforks, it seems Capcom’s way of using the technology isn’t all that bad.
Capcom Uses Generative AI for “Routine Tasks” Only

This confirmation came during the presentation of Capcom’s 2026 financial report. According to Capcom, the use of generative AI helps improve work efficiency by reducing the amount of time employees spend on repetitive tasks.
Because of this, Capcom believes its developers can spend much more time on purely creative work, giving the company more room to approve new projects that previously may not have been possible because of time and resource limits.
Capcom explained that “routine tasks” include things such as error checking, research, and user data analysis, along with many other activities that usually require a large amount of manual work.
Some people may think this could eventually lead to layoffs, but that does not appear to be the case with Capcom. In fact, the company says it plans to increase its workforce by 6% this year, showing that AI is being used to support development rather than replace employees.
In other news, a Google executive has claimed that almost all major game studios are now using generative AI in some form during development, although not every company openly admits it.
