Paradox Interactive has revealed this week’s Cities: Skylines 2 gameplay deep dive! Developer Colossal Order goes into detail about the different Maps and Themes in the upcoming city builder. You can watch the full Cities: Skylines 2 Maps and Themes gameplay deep dive right here:

Players can now create isolated pocket towns, construct taller buildings than in the predecessor, and build in playable areas which are up to five times larger than the original games. Moreover, Cities: Skylines 2 introduces a range of themes including North American and European, giving players the choice to personalize the style of their city’s roads and buildings.

In Cities: Skylines, the playable area consisted of 5×5 tiles, 9 of which could be purchased once everything is unlocked. A single map tile was 1.92 x 1.92 km, resulting in a total playable area of 92.16km² with a maximum of 33.18km² to build a city on.

However, in Cities: Skylines 2, the map tile is almost ⅓ the size it was in the original game, but you are able to unlock almost all tiles, giving you a total of 441 map tiles. This results in a playable area of 159km² which is roughly five times that in Cities: Skylines.
