Ghosts One of Q1’s Best Selling Titles, Destiny To Be ‘Largest New Videogame IP Launch in History’

Video game publisher Activision’s most recent financial results are in and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts is among the top two best-selling titles for the first quarter of 2014.

“For the first quarter of 2014, in North America and Europe combined, Activision Publishing had the #1 and #2 best-selling titles– Skylanders SWAP Force and Call of Duty: Ghosts,” wrote the publisher in a press release.

Activision Blizzard Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick went on to detail the company’s plans for the rest of the year, predicting Bungie’s upcoming shared-world shooter, Destiny, to be the “largest new videogame IP launch in history.”

“We have a strong product pipeline for the balance of the year, beginning with the September 9th planned launch of Destiny, which we believe could become our next billion dollar franchise and the largest new videogame IP launch in history,” Kotick said.

“Activision Publishing also recently announced that Skylanders: Trap Team and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare are expected to be released on October 5 and November 4, respectively. In addition to plans for new content for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft and the release of Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition™ on console later this year, Blizzard Entertainment expects to launch World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor™, which is already one of the fastest selling expansions in the franchise’s history based on pre-sales, in the second half of 2014.”

We recently learned that Activision has allocated a $500 million budget to Destiny and the team at Bungie, placing high expectations on the brand new IP launching this September 9.

Likewise, Call of Duty fans are looking forward to the launch of Sledgehammer Games’ Advanced Warfare this November 4.
