Concord Goes Offline Later This Week; Full Refunds to Be Honored by Sony

Concord offline

In what’s possibly the quickest timeframe from being released, and then having its servers yanked, Firewalk Studios’ hero shooter Concord is going offline on September 6, 2024! Yes, less than two weeks since it launched, Concord will be taken off the PlayStation Store, and anyone who purchased it will get a full refund.

The announcement was made by Sony today, where it also mentioned that they are to “explore options” which include those that will “better reach our players.” If that sounds like a signal of the game going free-to-play, then perhaps that’s the right idea. Either that or Sony can give it away for free for PlayStation Plus members, but nothing has been announced so far.

In terms of refunds, for those who bought it on the PlayStation Store, a refund will be used back to your original payment method. For the rest, here’s what Sony shared:

Steam Store – Steam Store will refund players who bought the game over the coming days. Steam will send confirmation of the refund once it has been processed.

Epic Games Store – Epic Games Store will refund players who bought the game over the coming days and will contact each customer directly to confirm that the refund has been processed.

Other retailer refunds – For customers who have purchased a physical copy at a retailer location outside of PlayStation directly, please refer to the refund process of the retailer you purchased it from to obtain your refund.

With the game said to have only sold 2,500 units across PS5 and PC, this news isn’t really surprising. The big question here is: are we seeing Concord back? Perhaps Sony will repackage it as a F2P shooter? Or the company can cut its losses now, and just forget the game ever existed.

Odds are, Firewalk Studios will be met with layoffs, as the game was in development for eight years, and couldn’t even last a month online.

After that employee called everyone names and had a hissy fit on twitter, I don’t have any sympathy for the devs. This game targeted a specific audience and that audience showed up, as expected it was only 25,000 people in total. If they didn’t pander to a minority and insult everyone else, it might have sold more copies.

Heck, if the character models looked more like the main woman from Stellar Blade or even anyone from The First Descendant it would have sold more copies. Nah, they had to go the safe route and create the most boring, safe looking cast ever.
