Crimson Desert CEO Admits Story Is Not Perfect and Says Team “Could Have Done Better”
Crimson Desert has had a mixed reception since its release, even though it managed to sell more than 3 million copies in just a few days. While many players have enjoyed the game, others have raised concerns about its controls, the presence of AI, and, most notably, its story.
In response to this feedback, the CEO of Pearl Abyss has admitted that the story is one of the weakest parts of the game. During a Q&A session with investors, Jin Young addressed these criticisms directly, acknowledging the concerns raised by players.
Pearl Abyss CEO Acknowledges Player Disappointment Over Crimson Desert Story

“I sympathize to some extent with the disappointment users feel regarding the story,” said the CEO. He also admitted that the team “could have done better job” with that part of the game.
Young explained that the studio focused more on gameplay during development. “The production team tried to make up for the shortcomings in the remaining time, but ultimately, we focused on strengthening the gameplay, which is what we do best.”
However, this issue may be linked to deeper development problems. One developer has reported that Crimson Desert’s story was decided at the last minute, along with claims of internal struggles and a “yes men” workplace culture during development.
It’s also worth noting that even the gameplay has received criticism since launch, and the studio has already promised to work on improvements.
Some players also find it surprising that the game has these issues, since Crimson Desert originally started as an MMORPG following Black Desert Online. This may explain some of the design choices that are still present in the game.
Even so, opinions may change over time, as reviews have improved the more time people spend with the game.
In other news, Pearl Abyss is exploring a Crimson Desert Switch 2 port, but says there are aspects they may have to give up to make it work properly.
