Devil May Cry 5 Multiplayer Detailed in New Trailer, Demo Available Now for Xbox One

devil may cry 5 multiplayer

Remember when we reported back in September that Devil May Cry 5 was rumored to have multiplayer? As it turns out, that was entirely true!

In a press release, Capcom has outlined the Devil May Cry 5 multiplayer mechanics, which it dubs the “cameo system.” While we’ll get to that in a bit, Dante and Nero will be joined by a new third playable character named “V.”

V uses a cane as a weapon, and he has three unique demons at his disposal! Here are the details regarding V’s familiars.

The Familiars

  • Shadow

This demon familiar usually takes the form of a quadruped beast, only to shapeshift into blades, needles, and all manner of nasty weapons to act as vanguard. Through Shadow, V can also move at faster speeds than normal.

  • Grifon

This avian monstrosity can always be found somewhere around V, usually flapping its beak with some inappropriate jab. Griffon brings the thunder with electrified long-range attacks, or can give V a lift if close by.

  • Nightmare

V can unleash his full power to call upon this gargantuan demon. When summoned, Nightmare may crash onto the battlefield like a meteorite, or burst through parts of the environment to heed the call. Its sluggish movements belie unsurpassable strength and nigh-invulnerability. Wherever Nightmare appears, its massive fists or brutal laser beams are the last thing enemies ever see.

So what about the cameo system? Check out gameplay of it below, and then read on for the info.

The cameo system isn’t competitive multiplayer (not the traditional kind), but more of a co-op experience. While you’re playing the single-player campaign, and assuming you’re connected to the internet, you’ll get cameo appearances from another person’s game in real time or ghost data gameplay recordings! Depending on the mission, you’ll see another player in the background, or in some cases, fight side-by-side with other players!

Once each cameo appearance is done, the player can rate the player! Nabbing a “Stylish” score from another player will come with useful rewards according to Capcom.

Not enough Devil May Cry 5 goodness? Capcom has also confirmed that the Bloody Palace will be making a return as a free update to the game!

Lastly, the Devil May Cry 5 demo is out now on Xbox One! This exclusive demo will be available from today until January 6, 2019, and will let you play as Nero. The demo will be available on other platforms on a later unannounced date.

Devil May Cry 5 is set to hack its way out this March 8. 2019 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
