Dragon Ball Creator Akira Toriyama Passed Away at the Age of 68

Anime legend Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragon Ball franchise that has spawned endless animated projects, video games and more, has passed away at the young age of 68 due subdural hematoma on March 1, 2024.

This was announced on the official Dragon Ball website where it also mentioned that Toriyama had several projects in the middle of creation, and that future plans to commemorate his death has not been decided yet.

While Toriyama is best known for the Dragon Ball media property, he was also heavily involved in video games as well where he did the character design for games such as Chrono Trigger, Blue Dragon, the Dragon Quest franchise and more.

Regarding this personal life, Toriyama was not keen on media exposure and preferred to be kept out of the limelight. He event used an avatar called “Robotoriyama” to represent himself in interviews and in manga. Toriyama is survived by his wife Yoshimi Katō, and two children.

Anime and Manga would not be as popular around the world without this man. His contributions to video games like Blue Dragon, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest and the upcoming Sand Land are underappreciated. He turned anything he touched into gold. There will never be another legend like Akira Toriyama.
