Dragon Ball FighterZ Rollback Netcode Announced, No More Updates Planned in the Future

Dragon Ball FighterZ Update 1.000.003

Dragon Ball FighterZ got two major announces today at EVO 2022. First up, the producer of the fighting game announced that the Dragon Ball FighterZ rollback netcode is coming to the game soon!

The second announcement isn’t as positive however, as the devs think Dragon Ball FighterZ is “tuned to its finest” and will not be receiving any updates or characters.

Hiroki-san, the producer of Dragon Ball FighterZ made the announcement today at EVO 2022:

DBFZ – Rollback Netcode Official Announcement from dragonballfighterz

“With the latest update we just released a few weeks ago, we believe Dragon Ball FighterZ has been tuned to it’s finest. So, we do not (have) future plans for any new characters, or balance, adjustments… but here’s the good news, we have decided to implement rollback netcode to Dragon Ball FighterZ”

The Dragon Ball FighterZ community had been requesting a rollback netcode update ever since the game’s release back in 2018. Finally, about four years later, the developers of the game heard the fans and decided to implement rollback netcode, allowing for a much better online experience.

What is rollback netcode? (via gamepur)

Rollback netcode eliminates the delay by predicting your inputs. The game will attempt to predict your input by itself and will show that input to the enemy player. For example, if the game expects you to use Ryu’s Fireball at the enemy, that’s what the game will show the enemy. However, imagine if you instead used a different attack? The game will “rollback,” and adjust what actually happened. The game rewinds to a different state, one where your other attack was actually executed.

The rollback update will be available on PC as well as the newly announced Xbox Series and PS5 version of Dragon Ball FighterZ. People who own the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game can upgrade the game using smart delivery and other upgrade programs. Once the netcode update is out, we’ll be sure to let our readers know.

While fans are delighted about Dragon Ball FighterZ finally getting the rollback netecode update, they’re not thrilled about it not receiving any more patches in the future. The community has won but at what cost? Let us know what you think in the comments below. You can purchase Dragon Ball FighterZ on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox Series X|S and PS5 (via backward compatibility).
