Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Daima DLC Looks More Like a Dream Sequel

It’s been five long years since Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was first released, and despite being a single-player game, the DLC support the game has gotten over the years is rather impressive, especially when compared to other, more online-focused Dragon Ball games.

With the epic conclusion of Dragon Ball Daima happening a few months back, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot feels more relevant than ever, as Bandai Namco has continued to breathe new life into the game, and will do so soon with an all new DLC expansion that dives into the story of Daima, retelling its iconic saga and further exploring fan-favorite moments that never got the spotlight. Though there are no signs of an actual follow-up happening, I can’t help but feel, after the newest DLC trailer, that the Daima DLC might be that long-awaited sequel we’ve been waiting for.

Enter The Demon Realm

Being set up as a two-part DLC, Dragon Ball Z Kakarot fans will soon be able to venture into the Demon Realm with the Daima DLC pack coming later this month. Although it’s only the first part of the DLC, based on the gameplay trailer that debuted today, it’s impressive to see just how much work has gone into this DLC. It doesn’t look to be a simple play through a few quests that seemingly speed-run through the story of Daima, but instead looks to be more of a fully realized reimagining of Daima within the Kakarot engine. From dynamic cutscenes and newly designed environments to unique combat scenarios that reflect the younger, more mystical tone of Daima, this DLC appears to be aiming for more than just fan service. It’s shaping up to be an ambitious expansion that respects the source material while delivering a fresh and engaging gameplay experience for longtime players.

Considering how old DBZ: Kakarot is, you would think that the studio and publisher would have saved this adventure as a full blown game, and yet, here we are, five years later about to get DLC to the main game, DLC that looks to go beyond the standard scope of “DLC” like with most other games.

It may not be a standalone sequel that I was hoping to see, but so far, it’s shaping up to be one in spirit. Of course, that could be a different story come release, but we won’t have to wait too long to find that out as the first part of the Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Daima DLC arrives on July 17 on all available platforms.
