ESL Will Host The ‘World’s Largest CS:GO Tournament’ In Cologne This Summer

This Summer, the LANXESS Arena in Cologne, Germany will play home to the “world’s largest Counter-Strike:GO tournament” on August 22-23, hosted by the Electronic Sports League (ESL).

The company’s Managing Director of Pro Gaming, Ulrich Schulze, announced today, “We had the honour of hosting two US$250,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments last year as part of the ESL One esports tour, and this year we plan on stepping it up.”

“ESL One Cologne is going to be the largest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event in the world. Taking place in the biggest indoor arena in Germany, we’re sure it’ll be a massive hit for fans from all over.”

This year, a prize pool of $250,000 USD, funded entirely by ESL, will be offered to the winners of the sixteen participating teams, a change from previous tournaments whose winnings were primarily community-funded. Schulze hopes the gesture will highlight ESL’s strong dedication to one of the PC’s most popular competitive shooters of all time and its community.

More details are to come on the tournament structure and qualification progress. Tickets will go on sale starting this February 23 on Eventim and at all associated ticketing agencies in Germany.

Thanks, PC Gamer and theScore.
