Fallout 5 in Pre-Production, Fallout 3, New Vegas Remasters Confirmed in Development
It’s been over a decade since Fallout 4 — the last mainline entry in the franchise — was released, but fans have something to look forward to, as Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 5 is in development! Well, it’s in pre-production, but we’ll take that as a win.
This is something Bethesda shared today in an in-depth roadmap of the studio’s plans for the future and what they’re cooking up now.
Aside from Fallout 5, there are also other Fallout games in development, which should please franchise fans.
Fallout 5, Remasters of Classic Fallout Games on the Way
In a lengthy breakdown of the studio’s upcoming projects and general state of Bethesda, it was confirmed that Fallout 5 is in pre-production. While The Elder Scrolls 6 is the primary focus, it’s comforting to know that at the very least, we will be getting a new Fallout game in the next 4-7 years (maybe?).
Alongside that, it’s confirmed that Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new Fallout project, though details will have to wait. Not only that, but it’s confirmed that Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are both getting remastered and are in development right now.
Given Fallout 3 was released in 2008, and Fallout: New Vegas in 2010, it’s high time we got a remaster of both titles. I assume a lot of players today have not played both, and it would be good to see it resurface with more modern gaming mechanics.
Other Fallout news shared by Bethesda is how a new expansion is confirmed for Fallout 76, titled “Raven Rock,” and is due for release next year. Oh, and it’s not just premium DLC, but it’s a prequel story to Fallout 3!
As for Fallout 4, the game received its second wind a few years ago, as Bethesda released a free PS5, Xbox Series upgrade to the RPG. Since then, the game has gotten title updates, with the most recent one released two months ago. Bethesda shared that to date, Fallout 4 has sold over 35 million copies across all platforms and continues to bring new audiences every year.
It seems the report that surfaced two weeks ago, which mentioned that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma was implementing an overhaul of Bethesda, with the studio focusing on key franchises such as Fallout, was somewhat true.
Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the future Fallout projects before the year is over.
