Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Release Date Revealed; Pushed Back So People Can Enjoy Elden Ring DLC
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail expansion release date has officially been announced, and while it is coming soon, according to game director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida, the release could have been sooner, but Elden Ring got in the way.
As announced during the Final Fantasy 14 panel at PAX East, Yoshi-P confirmed that Dawntrail, Final Fantasy 14’s next expansion, will officially be released on July 2, 2024. Many will probably notice that this comes a little over a week after Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC release. That’s not by coincidence either, as Yoshi-P jokingly stated while on stage that they wanted players (including himself) to be able to experience the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC before Dawntrail’s release.

Sure, Yoshi-P jokes about it, but considering the massive success of Elden Ring, releasing after the DLC is a wise choice to avoid potential overshadowing. Either way, I know for sure I’ll be enjoying both when they drop, and it seems that June and July are starting to become quite the busy month of gaming.

For those wondering what the Final Fantasy 9 connection is to Dawntrail, you’ll have to figure it out yourself, as Yoshida says the references to it are a “secret.”
