Final Fantasy 16 DLC Currently Not in the Works; “It’s a One-Off Game,” Says Yoshi-P
While Final Fantasy 16 seems to contain lots of content based on the previews we have of the game so far, the fantasy action RPG will likely not receive a DLC anytime soon, according to the game’s developers.
In an interview with Game Informer, director Hiroshi Takai announced that Creative Business Unit III has no plans for a FF16 DLC. Producer Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P, revealed that FF16 is a “one-off game,” and that while the team does want to consider adding DLCs, the decision will be based on player reception.
Here’s the full quote from Yoshida:
It’s a one-off game. We’re asking players to pay the full price for this experience, and so we want an experience that’s going to equal the amount of money that players are going to be paying and we want them to have satisfaction equal to what they paid or even more than that.
We have no idea if people are going to fall in love with Valisthea and fall in love with Clive’s story and want to see more of the world and more of its characters. So while we always want to consider DLC or spinoffs or those types of things where you can learn more about the game, first we want to see if Valisthea and Clive are really things players around the world want to see more of and then make that decision.
Interestingly, FF16 isn’t the first AAA game this year that wasn’t made with DLC releases in mind. Back in February, Avalanche Software revealed that the developer had no plans to make a DLC for popular wizard game Hogwarts Legacy. Despite this, Hogwarts Legacy performed extremely well, surpassing $1 billion in sales earlier this month.

I would be surprised if Final Fantasy 16 didn’t receive any additional content at some point in the foreseeable future.
