In a recent Japanese livestream, Square Enix gave us some more juicy details about their upcoming action RPG, Forspoken. In the hour-and-a-half deep dive, we learn about various bits of information, such as the type of magic the game uses. What really stood out, though, was a short clip that showcased the Forspoken fast travel system that is amazingly fast — at least on PS5.
While fast travel systems are nothing new to RPGs, the loading times that you have to deal with when fast traveling can be a bit of an immersion break. In the Forspoken clip, however, the game seems to load instantly, allowing players to get right back to the action without staring at a loading screen for a few seconds.

While the footage seems too good to be true, it’s actually not all that surprising. The PS5 uses an SSD for storage that comes from a partnership with Western Digital, and SSDs allow devices to load data faster than older storage alternatives, such as hard drives. It’s still a sight to behold though, and it’s a testament to how optimized the PS5 really is for next-gen titles like Forspoken.
Forspoken is set to release on January 24 next year on the PS5 and PC.
