Luminous Productions and Square Enix have released a new Forspoken “Magic Parkour” deep dive video, which explains’ Frey’s magic-infused movement abilities, stamina management, and upgrades through completing Spellcraft challenges.

Watch the video below:

At the heart of the Forspoken Magic Parkour system is the Flow ability, which is the name given to a magic-augmented sprint that allows Frey to traverse vast stretches of terrain at breakneck speeds. Many of the abilities and maneuvers in the system consume Stamina points, limiting players’ movement options as the bar depletes. To counter that expense, the Rush ability restores Stamina points while also temporarily increasing the speed at which Frey can Flow. Further upgrades to stamina management can be made by upgrading Parkour abilities through completing Spellcraft challenges.

The Magic Parkour system is designed around ensuring travel speed regardless of terrain, and as such, the Shimmy ability lets players make horizontal leaps from point to point without consuming Stamina. Soar does the same job but on the vertical axis, allowing Frey to climb tall structures and cliffs effortlessly.

Don’t worry about risking fall damage, however, as the Float ability provides a robust cushion for thrill-seekers that happen to miscalculate a jump or need to swiftly descend to the ground. In a similar vein, the Glide ability allows traversal across water bodies with a foothold reminiscent of surfboards while protecting players from drowning horribly.

And for players wondering about the combat potential of the Forspoken Magic Parkour system, the Scale ability creates phantom footholds on top of enemies for Frey to perform double-jumps and aerial attacks, while the Zip ability facilitates last-second evasions besides its movement utility by allowing players to latch on and pull themselves to surfaces in a very Spider-Man-like fashion.

The next video in the series, Forspoken Deep Dive: Magic Combat, releases on November 3, and will dive into the fundamentals of Frey’s magical combat skills.  The final video, Forspoken Deep Dive: Exploring Athia, releases on November 10, and will showcase quests, challenges and various activities that players can find and accomplish across the world of Athia.

Square Enix‘s Forspoken comes out January 24, 2023 for PC and PS5, and can be pre-ordered now. Check out the gameplay trailer from Tokyo Game Show 2022, featuring Forspoken’s supporting cast and some truly terrifying dragons.
