Alongside the announcement of delaying Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft has confirmed that it has scrapped four other projects that were in development. The canceled projects include the Splinter Cell VR game, Ghost Recon Frontline, and two unannounced games that we know nothing of.

CEO Yves Guillemot announced the cancelation of the games at Ubisoft’s earnings call.

“…and even more focus on our biggest development opportunities as evident by our decision to stop development of the Splinter Cell VR game, Ghost Recon Frontline, and two other unannounced titles.”

The Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed VR games were announced by Ubisoft at the Oculus Connect virtual event in 2020 and were being planned as an Oculus VR exclusive. The Assassin’s Creed game seems to be still in development, whereas the Splinter Cell VR project has been canned as of today.

Ghost Recon Frontline was a free-to-play shooter that featured over 100 players in teams of three. It was a new take on the battle royale genre according to Ubisoft.

We do not know anything about the other two unannounced games, or their scale. Ubisoft has given no specific reason for the cancellation of these projects, other than to focus on the plethora of games they already have in development.

Even with the cancelation of all these games, the publisher still has a continuous cycle of big games coming out this year, and the next.
