God of War Laufey Will Launch With a Physical Disc, Further Cementing 2027 Release
In case you missed the news, there’s a new God of War game, and it’s starring Kratos’ wife, Laufey.
While Santa Monica showed plenty of it during the last State of Play event, one thing they didn’t reveal was a release date outside of early 2027.
Well, there’s a bit of an update: the studio confirmed that God of War Laufey will not only be available digitally but will also launch on disc.
God of War Laufey Should Be Releasing Before January 2028
What might possibly be PlayStation’s last exclusive launching in physical format, Santa Monica Studios has confirmed that a physical version of the game will be available for PlayStation 5 disc owners.

If you missed the news last week, Sony announced it would cease production of physical discs for new games launching after January 2028. Unless a first-party studio exception applies to them, this ultimately means that God of War: Laufey is launching no later than January 2028.
What I do think is the big news here is that it won’t be a digital-only title, and it could very well be PlayStation’s last big exclusive that ships on a physical disc. Of course, there’s Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, though it’s been a while since we’ve gotten any significant update. Meaning that it could very well slip past PlayStation’s end date for physical discs on new releases. So as of right now, God of War Laufey could very well be the last PlayStation exclusive to ever get a physical release.
It’s a sad thought, but if the game is anything like the last few God of War games, at least the end of physical media on PlayStation may be going out with a bang.
God of War Laufey’ is expected to launch in 2027, exclusively on the PS5.
