God of War Ragnarok on PC review bombed

God of War Ragnarok is officially out on PC, opening to a stream of gamers on a whole new platform for the very first time. While the PC release is every bit of a masterpiece like it was with the PS5 version, but with more features to take advantage of, not all is well, at least on Steam, as players have begun review-bombing God of War Ragnarok all due to an apparent PSN account requirement.

God of War Ragnarok’s Apparent PSN Requirement on PC has PC Players Riled Up.

Though the news of God of War Ragnarok requiring a PSN account on PC to play is something that has been announced by Sony before, that hasn’t stopped PC players from voicing their criticism of the requirement in the form of review bombing. Over on Steam, God for War Ragnarok currently sits at a 64%  player recommendation, with countless reviews referring to the requirement for their low rating.

While it can be argued that many, if not most, of these users’ data is already out there, it is still an understandable reasoning for not wanting to create a PSN, especially to play a single-player game. Then there are also those who are left out on PC, a platform which many enjoy for its openness. There are countless PC players who were hoping to try out the sequel to the first rebooted title, but they can’t since it’s not sold in their country due to the requirements to play it. We saw such a case when Sony pulled Helldivers 2 from multiple countries despite previously being available until they started forcing the PSN requirement.

Now here’s the kicker: While the game does ask players to create a PSN account to play, it is not happening to everyone. Based on our own testing, you can play it without it, and this has been echoed by other games as well.

However, some gamers are not able to bypass it, while some can. Here’s a discussion on-going on the game’s Steam page:

The stream mentioned is here in case you want to see it for yourself.

We admit, requiring to create a PSN account just to play a single-player game is a bummer. Of course, there are means to circumvent it, such as using VPNs to create an account, but those are hoops that many aren’t too fond of. What’s odd here is the seemingly randomness of it. We’ve reached out to Sony about it, and will update the article if we get a response back.

Whether or not Sony reverse course on this is anyone’s guess, though given all the recent sleight of PlayStation releases on PC, something tells us this requirement will stay for the long haul.

Well there is a way to make sure you do not need a PSN account.
Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum!
