Report: Steam Confirms It Was PlayStation, Not Them, Who Removed Helldivers 2 From Storefronts; Arrowhead Still Wants Game Available “Everywhere”
For those who can’t buy Helldivers 2 on Steam, it’s not just Valve throwing a hissy fit and decided they don’t want your money anymore, it’s actually Sony who is at fault here, which was confirmed by Valve.
For those unaware, Sony announced a week ago that Helldivers 2 PC players will be required to create and link a PlayStation Network account so they can continue playing the game or to even buy it. As one might expect, this was met with a lot of backlash, and it even involved the devs interacting with the community in a not-so-positive way. While Sony eventually caved and removed the PSN account linking requirement, it seems this good news came with some bad news as well, as some countries are now prohibited from buying Helldivers 2 on Steam. Now, for those thinking it’s Valve’s fault, it’s not, and this Steam support message (via HellDuke) basically confirms it’s the game’s publisher’s decision.

As you can see, it’s plain as day there that it states “this game is not available on Steam right now for specific regions as decided by the publisher.” For those unaware, Sony is the publisher of Helldivers 2, with independent studio Arrowhead Game Studios handling development duties.
Continuing with the topic of Helldivers 2 being pulled from Steam, three countries were added into the list of countries that can’t buy shooter from Steam officially, and these are Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Per Arrowhead Game Studios boss Johan Pilestedt, this was due a “administrative error correction,” as the three countries were supposed to be part of the original list, but were accidentally left out. It was only noticed to be missing from the list after Sony put the same restriction for Ghost of Tsushima on PC. In addition to that, Pilestedt mentioned in the official Helldivers Discord that they (Arrowhead) still want the game to be available everywhere.

It seems Sony is the one who doesn’t want money and sales for some reason, as the company would rather alienate the population of over 150 countries, by trying to figure out a way to somehow shoehorn PSN into its games released on Steam.
Hopefully, Sony will also reverse this decision at some point, so Arrowhead can just focus on the continued development of Helldvers 2 instead of having to deal with all this nonsense.
