If you’re unsure how you’ll be tackling God of War Ragnarok when it launches on November 9, you’ll be glad to know that you’ll have different ways to do so depending on your mood, and how you choose to complete the game, as Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that there will be five God of War Ragnarok difficulty settings  available at launch.

This was revealed by God of War Ragnarok game director Eric Williams, in a recent live Q&A over on the the studio’s official Discord channel. According to Williams, the game will feature the following difficulty settings:

God of War Ragnarok Difficulty Settings:

  • Give Me Balance – Will give a balanced experience similar to God of War 2018.
  • Give Me Story – Similar to  “Give Me Story’ in the last game.
  • Give Me Grace –  Something in between Story and Balance.
  • Give Me No Mercy – Similar to Give Me a Challenge setting from GOW 2018
  • Give Me God of War – The hardest difficulty setting in the game.

Williams adds that this time around, they have made adjustments to the the hardest difficulty, as now players who started the game on Give Me God of War difficulty will now be able to change it mid-game if they, for some reason, decide to tone it down, and don’t want to start again from scratch all over. The studio has also made it so that for the hardest difficulty, the challenge will ramp up over time, so the early game won’t be as brutal as it was in GOW 2018’s hardest difficulty mode.

Note that in Ragnarok, Santa Monica has made it so players can switch difficulty modes while in the game, though it bears mentioning that for the Give Me God of War difficulty option, if you find it too tough and switch it to a lower difficulty setting, you won’t be able to switch it back up again.

For those keeping score, Ragnarok has five difficulty settings, while GOW 2018 only had four.

God of War Ragnarok will be available this November 9 on the PS4 and PS5, and our review will be up on November 3. You can read our early hands-on impressions right here to see what we make of it so far.
