Report: Gran Turismo 7 Tested on Nintendo Switch 2 by Sony
Today, fewer games remain fully exclusive to a single platform. We have already seen PlayStation titles like LEGO Horizon Adventures release on Nintendo Switch and Helldivers 2 arrive on Xbox Series X|S.
So, could Gran Turismo 7 follow the same path? It seems unlikely, especially since a planned PC version was canceled.
Gran Turismo 7 for Switch 2 Exists at Polyphony and May Be Linked to a Future Portable PlayStation

The driving simulator from Polyphony Digital continues to receive updates on PS5 and PS4. However, according to insider Jeff Grubb during the Game Mess Decides podcast, there is a working prototype of Gran Turismo 7 running on Nintendo Switch 2 inside Polyphony’s offices.
This does not mean the game is coming to Nintendo’s console. Most likely, it is a non-commercial prototype. Grubb suggests that the purpose of this version may be more technical than commercial.
He believes Sony will not release Gran Turismo 7 on Switch 2. The game is one of PlayStation’s most important franchises, and it may also not fit well with Nintendo’s core audience. That raises the question: if Sony does not plan to launch it on Switch 2, why create a version that runs on the system?
The idea is that Polyphony Digital may be testing how the game performs on hardware similar to a portable console. If Gran Turismo 7 runs well on Switch 2, especially in handheld mode, Sony could use that data to help develop its next portable device.
In other words, this prototype may serve as a test for the future portable PlayStation console. It could help Sony improve performance and understand what is possible on handheld consoles.
It is also worth noting that Polyphony Digital has previously said that Gran Turismo games run internally on different platforms for testing. A Reddit user even mentioned that there is a PC version of Gran Turismo 6 with full VR support kept for internal use.
It is almost certain that this Switch 2 version of Gran Turismo 7 is only a prototype created to support future hardware development. However, there is still a small possibility that the racing game could be released on other platforms one day.
