GTA 6 release date

In news that should shock absolutely no one, Rockstar Games has today confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has been delayed to 2026! The good thing here is, they have nailed a release date down, which is May 26.

The delay was announced by Rockstar with a note apologizing to gamers, and how this was “humbling” for the entire team.

The announcement from Rockstar reads:

Hi everyone,

Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.

We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.

With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.

Sincerely,
Rockstar Games

I can’t say we’re surprised at this development. We got one trailer for the game, and it’s supposed to be released in a few months? Yeah, that’s not going to happen. Not to mention, the franchise is known for delaying its games.  Show of hands to anyone who believed the game would meet its “Fall 2025” release schedule? Yeah, thought so.

With GTA 6 now out of 2025, publishers can now plan their release schedules accordingly, since they don’t have to avoid Rockstar’s monster game. Here’s to hoping we at least get a new trailer sometime this year. In  the meantime, check out our breakdown of the higher-quality trailer, which revealed a few more details.
