Although Helldivers 2 was released over a year ago, the title remains strong, with the recent massive update, released just over two weeks ago, continuing to attract attention from fans.

In the latest update, Heart of Democracy, where players must defend megacities around the world from an alien invasion, one of the cities, Equality-on-Sea—a fictional city in the game—is inspired by the modern-day Shanghai.

Although some Chinese players are frustrated with the recent update, as they believe it is designed in a way that allows players to entirely prevent the invasion, many have praised the developers, including the Chinese embassy, for promoting global unity.

This sentiment was echoed by the official Chinese Embassy, which tweeted shortly after the release, praising Arrowhead Games for their efforts in promoting global unity through the update.

The tweet stated, “In the shooter game Helldivers 2, players from China, US, and beyond unite to defend cities like Shanghai and New York when aliens strike, turning pixels into real human connections.”

The tweet also mentioned hashtags like #ChinaUS and #GlobalUnity, and shared a picture stating that it is more than a game, as it unites people to defend cities from aliens.

Last week, some players left negative reviews on Steam due to issues with the Mega-City Defence mode. However, after the update, the rating has returned to normal, and it now appears that the majority of players, as well as authorities, are pleased with the developers’ recent update.
