Hi everyone!

We’re very happy to announce that our team is releasing Patch 1.21 for Horizon Forbidden West today. Patch 1.21 sets up the game for the release of Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores. It also brings additional Accessibility Features.

Patch 1.21 is exclusive to PlayStation 5 users.

Do note that Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores content will be playable from April 19th onwards.

  • Introduced new accessibility features, including:
    • Enlarging Subtitles
    • Auto-Pickup
    • Color Blindness settings
    • Auto camera
    • Navigation assist in Focus Mode
    • Thalassophobia mode
    • Additional accessibility features
  • Support for Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores expansion has been added.

Update Guerrilla Games has released an FAQ for the Burning Shores DLC and in it, the studio confirmed that new accessibility features will be available with the patch that’s free for all players.

Will there be new accessibility features for Horizon Forbidden West added with this DLC?
Yes! With the patch released alongside this DLC, we’ll be adding a number of new accessibility features such as:

  • Thalassophobia – This feature aims to ease thalassophobia symptoms by improving underwater ambient visibility and allowing you to breathe indefinitely, regardless of story progression.
  • Improved UI readability options – Added options to increase waypoint and quest icon sizes.
  • Navigation Assist – Added an option to assist the player’s orientation during a quest, with a new option added in Focus mode to face the camera towards the current objective. Additionally, if the user has a waypoint set the camera will prioritize aiming towards this direction.
  • Color Blind settings – Added new color blind accessibility options.
  • Auto Camera – Added an option to allow the camera to follow your movement behavior from the left stick without having to control it with the right stick.
  • HUD Vignette – Added an option to add a vignette to darken the edges of the screen, increasing contract and improving HUD readability.
  • Auto Pickup – Added an option to automatically collect pickups without button-press interactions from the player.
  • Improved Subtitle Sizes – Increased the size of subtitles for the Large and Extra Large options.

Please note, you do not need to own the DLC to make use of these features as they will be patched into Horizon Forbidden West.

If there are more changes released by Guerrilla, we’ll update the article to reflect it.

So far, Guerrilla Games has not acknowledged the patch just yet, though we are expecting that to change very soon. As for the Burning Shores expansion, it’s a separate download at 16GB and is only available for PS5.

Check out the trailer for Burning Shores alongside the official details below:

South of the Tenakth Clan Lands, a millennia of volcanic eruptions and violent seismic activity has carved the ruins of Los Angeles into a treacherous archipelago.
Experience the next chapter of Horizon Forbidden West™, as Aloy pursues a sinister new threat to the planet, hidden among these dangerous, untamed wilds.

The Burning Shores contains additional content for Horizon Forbidden West™, including new storylines, characters, and experiences in a stunning yet hazardous new area.

– Travel beyond the Forbidden West as Aloy’s story continues.
– Encounter new machines and a compelling new story.

To enter the Burning Shores, you must complete the main quest (up to and including Singularity) in the PS5 version of Horizon Forbidden West – following the main quest, the player will receive a call over Aloy’s Focus, beginning the DLC.

Once the official patch notes are out, we’ll update the article to reflect the changes made.
