How Ubisoft Sets the Stage for Far Cry 7 With Far Cry 6 DLC

FarCry 7 News

Far Cry fans wondering where the series goes next may not have to look far, as the latest Far Cry 6 DLC seems to be setting the stage for what may eventually be Far Cry 7.

(Note: Major spoiler warning to those who haven’t completed Far Cry 6 and its three pieces of DLC. We suggest you go play those unless you want to be spoiled)

For those out of the loop, Far Cry 6 has received a number of DLCs based on the series’ past antagonists. Those being Vaas (Far Cry 3), Pagan Min (Far Cry 4), and finally Joseph Seed (Far Cry 5). While many would normally view these DLCs as fun little side content, it would seem a growing trend amongst all three of them is the added twist that they all have survived their original deaths. This doesn’t seem to be the case of giving players more closure for them either, as each villain hints at having involvements with one another, as well as teasing their own returns.

How Far Cry 3’s Vaas Survived and Where Is He Now

In Far Cry 3, Vaas is killed after multiple stabs from the main protagonist. For many, it was a rather lackluster death due to how little we got to actually spend with him. This eventually led to speculation that the character had survived this, though no concrete evidence was to be found.

When Far Cry 6 was announced many had speculated that it was a prequel, and that dictator Anton Castillo’s son may have been Vaas. That was soon clarified, as the events of Far Cry 6 took place long after Far Cry 3, making it technically a sequel in terms of releases.

However, not all seemed lost as the ending of Far Cry 6 featured a voice exchange between Juan and an unnamed smuggler. While no faces were revealed, longtime fans instantly recognized the voice belonging to actor Michael Mando, who previously voiced Vaas in Far Cry 3.

The first DLC drop for Far Cry 6, however, confirmed that Vaas is alive and very much insane as he is shown sitting near the ocean’s shore talking to a golf ball that has been sculpted to look like Jason Brody, the protagonist of Far Cry 3. He hints that he has big things planned with the scene cutting to credits.

How Far Cry 4’s Pagan Min Survived and Where Is He Now

Pagan’s fate is a bit hard to determine, but the DLC leads us to believe that he is alive, as it is shown he is getting up after being shot. If this is indeed the case, with Far Cry 4 taking place in 2018, it would align with a lot of the references in Far Cry 6. Pagan’s face is plastered all over magazines, becoming a bit of a celebrity in Far Cry 6. This leads fans to believe he is alive. As for his whereabouts, little is hinted at here though we assume he is still in Kyrat.

How Far Cry 5’s Joseph Seed Survived and Where Is He Now

Far cry 7 Joseph Seed

The answer to Seed’s survival is already given to us at the end of Far Cry 5. Unlike the other two villains, Seed is never killed off, at least not until the New Dawn spin-off where players are finally given the option to kill him. However, what does seem to be certain is that the nuke did happen in Far Cry 5. The DLC doesn’t answer the exact whereabouts of Joseph Seed, but it is assumed that he is in his bunker, waiting out until the events of New Dawn.

How do All These Villains Connect and What Does This All Mean for Far Cry 7?

Well, if it wasn’t already clear, Far Cry 7, or whatever the next Far Cry entry may be called, does in fact appear like it’s being set-up to feature a team-up of some sort between all the villains. Whether they’re all allies or not, especially considering each game features different protagonists remains to be seen, but it does look like they will play major roles in the next Far Cry game.

The DLC for Far Cry 6 essentially retcons their deaths. Vaas is old now, with Pagan Min sitting from the sidelines and having fun, and Joseph Seed

In Vaas’ situation he has been linked directly to the end of Far Cry 6 in the form of a post-credit audio scene where he makes an exchange as a smuggler with Juan Cortez, a character players should be familiar with in Far Cry 6.

Now to avoid any confusion, the events of Far Cry 3 took place in 2012, while Far Cry 6 is set in 2022. A full ten years has passed since Vaas’ supposed death, yet the ending of Far Cry 6 confirms he’s still alive. Right around this time he would be around the age of 40, which would match his old man look in the DLC to follow. How Vaas ties in with the villains of Far Cry 4 and 5 is still being looked into, but what is certain is that he is still alive, with or without the DLC.

Pagan Min, Far Cry 4’s antagonist on the other hand does appear to have some connections to at least Far Cry 5. In his Far Cry 6 DLC it is revealed that Pagan Min had pre-recorded a message for his nephew Ajay in the event that he had died. He congratulated him on his rise to power, but then in a surprise twist revealed that he didn’t unload all his wealth on gold statues and other luxurious things. No, according to Pagan himself, he has been stockpiling a vault of nuclear weapons, all pointed at America due to him being tired of them getting involved in his affairs. While he doesn’t know exactly where they are pointed, he does mention Montana as one of the guesses. See where this is going now?

It is assumed that the nuclear strike that Joseph Seed warns about is directly caused by Pagan. Ajay himself with this piece of information, effectively tying the two villains together.

As for Joseph Seed, his connections to the other Far Cry 6 villains isn’t as clear-cut as the DLC revolves around canonizing that the nukes did go off. Players were hopeful that this DLC would perhaps provide an alternative, but it seems that Montana does indeed get nuked. The DLC for Seed takes place in his mind, in what we assume is the time between Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn. It explains how Joseph ended the way he was in New Dawn essentially. However, there could be more to this as the DLC concludes with yet another audio clip, with Joseph stuck in denial that his wife is dead as he leaves multiple voicemails as if everything is still alright. This is clearly the breaking point for Joseph, the one that caused him to down the path of insanity in Far Cry 5. It is very possible that this may be hinting that everything that had happened in Far Cry 5 was all in Joseph’s head. Either way, unlike the other villains Joseph was never killed off in FC5. It wasn’t until New Dawn that players had the choice to do so, but there is little to indicate which is the canon ending there.

It’s also possible that New Dawn isn’t a part of the new line of story that Ubisoft is crafting with this DLC. The nukes still go off, but the events leading into New Dawn could very well be retconned for something new. That is anyone’s guess though. However, there is also the walk away ending, the one where we don’t see the nuke go off and all the characters walk away alive. There is some evidence that this is the canon ending, as an Easter egg found in Far Cry 6 states Hurk sent Boomer the dog to live on Yara. New Dawn had a grave site for Boomer, meaning the dog had perished, but with canonizing the walk away option, that doesn’t happen as Boomer is now in Yara.

What is even more interesting however is that this all may even tie into Far Cry 1 and 2, as the Jackal (Far Cry 2) was confirmed by Ubisoft recently to be Jack Carver (Far Cry 1). This would mean that we have a major arms dealer and smuggler, who could potentially be tied to Pagan as supplying him with the muclear weapons, as well as connections to Far Cry 6 and 5.

Far Cry 7 Jackal Jack Carver

It’s all very confusing to be honest, and technically all of these games do take place in different timelines given what happens throughout them. However, what Ubisoft has effectively done with the DLC is propose that there is a timeline where the fates of these villains don’t play out like they do in the game. Granted, Vaas is alive regardless, but this does give Ubisoft the ability to bring both Pagan and Joseph back for Far Cry 7, or another spin-off, as well as The Jackal.

With the Far Cry 6 DLC so focused on tying each Far Cry game with one another, it would be a waste if Ubisoft didn’t follow through with it with a sequel that features all of Far Cry’s antagonists. They have certainly written explanations as to how they all can still be alive, and for fans, it could finally give them the proper send off for each character that they have been asking for since their conclusion.

Will Far Cry 7 feature a sinister six inspired group of villains? Or perhaps we are looking into this too much? Leave us your thoughts! Oh, and in case you haven’t already, be sure to read up on our Far Cry 6 review.

I don’t know what the story will be but I know exactly what the game will be like. That’s why Ubisoft games are a hard skip for me now. I’ve played the same game for 20 years now and it’s no fun anymore.

I really do hope they don’t go back in time or sum like 1940s or the 60s n just make another far cry in the US n base it in Texas or Cali or florida or just make another map n have 12+ bosses

I would like to see or run into Vas at like arms deal gone wrong n he becomes an ally n I hope they go back to how great far cry 3 was since you could actually harvest from plants n animals n actually pick up guns and you could use all your skills at once instead of having to choose on speed, stealth, strength and resistance to gas
