Sad news for not just Batman fans, but for everyone who plays games, watches animated superhero movies and more, as Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman in multiple animated films, games and the Batman: The Animated Series, has passed away at just 66 years of age.

Conroy’s death was confirmed by the voice actress for Poison Ivy, Diane Pershing in a Facebook post.

Very sad news: our beloved voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, died yesterday. He’s been ill for a while but he really put in a lot of time at the cons, to the joy of all of his fans. He will be sorely missed not just by the cast of the series but by his legion of fans all over the world. Below are pictures of Kevin with Loren Lester who plays Robin another with me and and Tara Strong who is in the later episodes of Batman cartoons. And then finally, one of Kevin and me in front of the huge audiences we used to get when we did our panels. RIP, friend.😢

The cause of death has not been revealed, though Pershing did mention that Conroy has been ill for quite some time. Conroy’s filmography is a very storied one, with a career spanning TV shows, animated movies, and of course, video games. Conroy was the voice behind Batman in the highly successful Batman Arkahm games.

We offer our deepest condolences to Conroy’s family, and for all those he left behind.

Thanks, Decider!
