Take-Two Finally Abandons “Agent” Trademark

Remember “Agent?” It was supposed to be a game developed by Rockstar Games exclusively for the PS3, and was announced way back at E3 2009. Well, fast forward close to a decade, and the infamous vaporware might finally be confirmed as just that.

It seems Take-Two, parent company of Rockstar Games, has finally abandoned the Agent trademark at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). You can check the filing here, but it mentions that “no statement of use or Extension Request timley filed after Notice of Allowance was issued,” which, in layman terms, means that Take-Two didn’t give a flying fart about the trademark.

Yep, it seems those rumors of the game seeing a 2019 release are complete bunk — not that anyone would believe it anyway.

If you’re one of the few people who was still holding out hope for a Rockstar Games-exclusive for PlayStation platforms, that ship has sailed apparently. But don’t fret, there’s a little game called Red Dead Redemption 2 that might be able to sooth your pains.

Will we see Agent again? Probably not. If ever, Rockstar can just create a new game from scratch and use a new title for it, since I doubt the publisher wants any of the drama and baggage the Agent brand will bring along with it, no?
