Marvel Rivals Crossplay Being Worked on by NetEase, but Don’t Expect Role Queue Anytime Soon
[summaraize]
For those playing Marvel Rivals who are thinking of playing on more than one platform, chances are you want your skins, items, and level to carry over, right? While that’s not possible now, it should be in the future, as NetEase has confirmed that Marvel Rivals cross-progression is being developed, though there are hurdles to it, and isn’t as easy as flicking a switch.
This was confirmed by Marvel Rivals Creative Director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen in an interview with Dot Esports.
Marvel Rivals Cross-Progression Feature Is Being Worked on by NetEase
“Cross-progression involves a lot of platform-specific rules, we’re still looking at it and how to solve it, Once the team is ready, once we’ve figured it out, we’ll be sharing to everyone and players will be the first to know.”
While that bit of Marvel Rivals news is good news, some might be disappointed to know that role queue, which locks a team’s composition to ensure a balance of damage dealers, tanks, and healers, isn’t in the cards right now.
Chen also confirmed this and explained the reasoning behind not implementing it in the hero shooter.
Marve Rivals Role Queue Not Considered Right Now by NetEase
Right now, we’re not considering a role queue..The team’s goal is to offer a wider variety of team composition through team-up skills and their own designs, to let people play their Marvel superheroes rather than limiting players to choosing a role.”
Chen also notes that in their data, things are looking fine, though they are monitoring it, and things could be different on the competitive side of things.
“From the data we’re seeing in our back end, things are going pretty solid.. We want people to have a Marvel experience where they’re free to select what they want. [Since the closed beta test] things have been rational and within expectations.
While some might favor a role queue to make sure every team isn’t just full of Duelists (damage dealers), I do understand where NetEase is coming from. Having said that, it is a pain to play the game sometimes given you are “forced” to play as a Strategist (healer) since no one else will. This is my predicament now, as about 90 percent of my games has me playing the healer, lest we just give up and everyone plays as a damage dealing hero.
Should Marvel Rivals follow Overwatch’s footsteps, enforce a role queue, and then have a separate open role playlist? Leave a comment below and let us know.
