“Marvel Rivals” Free-to-Play PvP Shooter Announced; Trailer, Game Features and Early Roster Revealed

Have you ever wanted to see Marvel characters pummel each other, but instead of playing against computer-controller enemies, that it’s against real people? If so, Marvel Games and NetEase Games have just the thing! “Marvel Rivals” has just been revealed, and it’s a free-to-play, team-based, PvP shooter featuring characters from the Marvel Universe.

Marvel Rivals features a storyline crafted by the NetEase writing team where the merciless clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises still unknown. Now, Super Heroes and Super Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups seek to defeat both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!

There’s no release date yet, but there is a closed beta set to take place this May on PC (go here to register). Currently, the game is only slated for PC, with no console versions confirmed.

Not going to lie and acknowledging the elephant in the room, this looks very much like Overwatch with Marvel characters…and you know what? I’m all for it! From what we’ve seen so far, it looks to be a solid game.

Alongside Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, it seems Marvel fans have a lot of gaming goodness to look forward in the future.
