For those who played Marvel’s Spider-Man and didn’t really like the bits where players were forced to be MJ, you’re not alone. Thankfully, Insomniac Games has heard the feedback loud and clear and is implementing it in Marvel’s Wolverine, which is set to be released next month.

Not only that, but the studio also commented on post-release support, and this should excite gamers too, as we can expect updates to be released even if the title is a single-player-focused game.

The deluge of info is part of today’s Marvel’s Wolverine embargo lift, which has now given us more info about the game,

Speaking to GamesRadar, senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed and head of technology Mike Fitzgerald were asked whether Jean Grey appearing in one of the game’s trailers meant it was a tease that the character was playable in the game.

Both developers refuted that and said, “Wolverine is our only playable character.”

This is very good news for those who want to avoid another Mary Jane scenario. While the sections featuring the character (and her stun gun!) weren’t that bad, it wasn’t something that people wanted more of either.

Marvel’s Wolverine Will Have More to Do Even After the Credits Roll

If that wasn’t enough good news, we have more. Unlike the Spider-Man games, which were open-world experiences, Wolverine is a linear, story-driven trek, though that doesn’t mean there’s going to be less to do…even after you’ve beaten the main story.

In an interview with IGN, Reiner-Reed and Fitzgerald confirmed that there are collectibles in the game for players to look out for that will contain raw materials used to unlock suits. Not only that, but these items can also be used to access “Nightmare Doors,” which are unique trials.

Reiner-Reed explained that Nightmare Doors are “manifestations of the horrible things happening in Logan’s mind…There are many of those throughout the game with different types of trials.”

Another thing players can look forward to is the Mission Replay mode, which lets players return to any mission to find collectibles they might have missed.

Also confirmed is the inclusion of New Game Plus available on day-one, which is something the Spider-Man games lacked at launch.

Reiner-Reed talked about it and said, “In a New Game Plus, you can use all of your loadout and progression that you already unlocked. You can choose whatever suit you want. So there’s some fun things that happen there. And also there’s some adaptations that are only available in New Game Plus. So there’s some fresh gameplay for folks.”

In other Marvel’s Wolverine news, the game’s ESRB rating confirmed we’ll be seeing “exposed buttocks” in the game.

Marvel’s Wolverine is set for release on September 15 exclusively for the PS5.
