Marvel’s Wolverine Screenshot Leaks, as Insomniac Games Become Targets of Ransomware

PlayStation has confirmed that Insomniac Games have become targets of a recent ransomware, which has seen some of the studio’s data leak, including some leaked screenshots for Marvel’s Wolverine.

As spotted by Cyber Daily, Insomniac Games has been hacked. The site reports Ransomware operator Rhysida has breached the studio and has managed to steal data, including employees’ personal information. Amongst the data, which they posted proof-of-hack of, are the first screenshots of Marvel’s Wolverine.

Gaming website VGC reached out to Sony, which confirmed the cyber attack as true, issuing them the following statement:

“We are aware of reports that Insomniac Games has been the victim of a cyber security attack,” the company said. “We are currently investigating this situation. We have no reason to believe that any other SIE or Sony divisions have been impacted.”

Rhysida threatens Sony and Insomniac Games, saying they have seven days before the data is published while also auctioning it off with a bid starting at 2 million dollars.

“With just 7 days on the clock, seize the opportunity to bid on exclusive, unique, and impressive data,” Rhysida said. “Open your wallets and be ready to buy exclusive data. We sell only to one hand, no reselling, you will be the only owner!”

Talk about awful news. We aren’t sure what Sony plans on doing, but one thing is sure: they need to tighten up their security. Just this past September, the company was under attack by another ransomware attack, with even more throughout the past years. Though it is a never-ending battle against hackers and thieves, it seems to be a very common occurrence over at Sony and their other divisions.

Let’s just hope the employee details remain unpublished.
