The Metal Gear Online service came to an end June 12th of last year, and while many were saddened by the news, today Kojima revealed that the service would be returning for another round. This time, we’ll be playing it in the upcoming prequel, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

In an interview with CVG, Kojima revealed that the multiplayer is indeed being worked on and by their studio in LA.

Yes, we plan on creating Metal Gear Online. Multiplayer right now is being created at our LA studio as well as us. We’re working closely to create a vast multiplayer for all the fans.

Don’t forget to watch the latest trailer released for the title. MGS5 is slated to release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and next-gen consoles, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

It’s interesting to see this returning. Hopefully they don’t enforce those difficult-to-work-with Konami ID’s that was mandated the first time around. With this, The Division, and Watch Dogs all being open-world multiplayer titles, do you think that this will become a trend as we move into the next-generation of home consoles?
