Microsoft Pulls $1 Xbox Game Pass Trial Just Days Before Black Ops 6 Release Date
In a surprising move, Microsoft has pulled the $1 trial option for Xbox Game Pass just days before the highly anticipated release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. This decision comes at a crucial time, as many gamers had hoped to use the affordable trial to access the game through Game Pass on launch day.
Microsoft has quietly removed the $1, 14-day Game Pass trial, a popular option for new subscribers looking to try the service at a low cost. This removal comes just over a week before Black Ops 6 is set to release, a game available at launch for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Without the trial, players now must pay full price for a Game Pass subscription to access the game on its release day.

This move comes after other changes from Microsoft that upset fans. Back in July, Xbox raised the prices for Game Pass across all tiers and made first-party games like Black Ops 6 available on day one only for Game Pass Ultimate members. This went against what Microsoft had promised earlier—that all first-party games would be available to everyone on day one, which left many in the Xbox community frustrated.
Without the $1 trial, gamers looking to play Black Ops 6 have fewer options. Since Game Pass Ultimate costs $20 a month, it’s better to buy the game for $70 if Black Ops 6 is the main game you want to play. Unless you plan to use other games on Game Pass, like MLB The Show 24 or Dead Island 2, paying for a monthly subscription might not be worth it.
Despite the changes, Xbox Game Pass remains one of the best deals in gaming, offering a vast library of games on consoles, PCs, and mobile devices. With major releases like Black Ops 6 available at launch for Ultimate members, it continues to be a go-to option for many gamers. However, removing the $1 trial makes it tougher for budget-conscious players to access these benefits without paying full price.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on October 25 for the PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
